Clive started teaching in Mount Temple Comprehensive School and became Principal of Presentation Brothers College Glasthule in 1994. He took on the Principalship of St. Mary’s College CSSP Rathmines in 1997 before taking on the role of Director of National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD) in 2008.
He has been an executive board member of ESHA, the European School Heads Association, which is the representative body for over 40 national school leadership organisations in 31 countries, since 2010 and is currently chairperson the executive board and the general assembly of ESHA.
Since 2023, Clive is the current Chair of the Thomas F. Meagher Foundation.
