9 Times Ladies Gaelic Football All Ireland Winner
With 9 ladies GAA football All-Star to her name Cora one of the greatest Ladies Football players of the modern age.
She is best known as a ladies’ Gaelic footballer, winning four All-Irelands and three Ladies’ National Football League titles with Mayo. The Mayo girl started playing for her county when she was 14. Throughout her career she has brought home 4 All-Ireland medals and three national league titles for Mayo. Between Junior, Senior, Club and County championships Cora has played in 25 All-Ireland finals. Her dominance of the game looks like it will continue.
Cora is the holder of 9 All-Star awards, 4 senior intercounty All Ireland titles, 3 NFL division 1 titles, 1 NFL division 2 title, 15 Mayo County titles, 14 Connacht club titles and 5 all-Ireland club titles. She was also picked on the TG4 team of the decade.
In 2018 she made her Australian rules football debut in the AFLW competition for the Greater Western Sydney Giants, establishing herself by 2022 as one of the league’s all-time great goalkickers. She has also played for the Ireland women’s international rules football team. In 2018, Staunton released her autobiography called Game Changer; it was named as the 2018 Bord Gáis Energy Sports Book of the Year. In March 2023, Staunton retired from Australian rules football.
